Overweight people often find themselves snoring in their sleep. With overweight people, the problem with snoring is rooted with the excess tissues on their throat that vibrates when they breathe on their sleep. Usually when one is overweight, the neck is subjected to more pressure thereby posing somewhat an obstruction on the airways. You then ask, “What can one with weight issues do for snoring prevention?”

On mild cases, snoring prevention is done by sleeping on the sides, raising the head part of the bed, making use of nasal clips, etc. But these snoring prevention tips are temporary and easily gets you back to snore if you get to sleep with your back on the bed, if your are unable to use your nasal clips, etc. Snoring prevention tips that have a somewhat permanent effect to deal with your concern involves eating healthy and subscribing to an active lifestyle.

Eating healthy for snoring prevention means avoiding excess alcohol intakes especially right before going to sleep. It means eating with just the right amount of food, and of course of the right choices of these. It means having to let go of habits that are bad to your health as smoking is. It means choosing what comes into your body, as it will eventually show on the outside.

Having a healthy diet for snoring prevention would do your body good, as your immune system will up and functioning to its maximum. You will more likely be able to live an active life as your body is full of energy and able to cope up with any activity you subject it to take.

From fat to fit requires that one starts off with healthy eating habits. The fruits and vegetables provides for more vitamins and nutrients for the body to function well. It increases immunity to sickness and any diseases. The rich fiber it has will help in taking toxins out of the body.

A healthy diet for snoring prevention means having a balanced diet. One needs sufficient carbohydrates for energy, as in fruits and vegetables; enough protein for muscle building; and just an appropriate amount and type of fat for your body hormones to function well.

A well balanced-diet will help you in keeping fit, and getting rid of those unwanted fats in your body as your body’s composition transforms to a more leaner one. Excess tissues around the body, as well as those that cause your snoring, will be eliminated little by little. Snoring prevention thru a healthy diet is the way to go for overweight people in need of answers to their snoring woes.

Since February is heart month it’s appropriate to look at a healthy heart diet. The one that comes to mind is Dr. Dean Ornish’s diet. He calls it the Program for Reversing Heart Disease.

Dr. Ornish showed that it is possible to reverse heart disease without drugs and surgery. His plan includes diet, exercise, support groups, meditation and yoga. His quotes a study that showed if you are 5% overweight you are 30 percent more likely to develop heart disease. Those that are moderately overweight have a risk 80 percent higher risk than lean people. And if you are 30 percent overweight you’re over 300 percent more likely to contract heart disease.

His research showed that coronary heart disease can be reversed by making different lifestyle choices. The lifestyle changes include diet, stress management, quitting smoking, moderate exercise, and emotional support.

This weight loss program is a more healthful way of living. It is not just a diet with restricted calories. It involves moderate exercise. Note, moderate exercise has most of the same benefits of more intensive exercise without the risk of injury. Moderate exercise helps you lose weight and it strengthens your heart.

Stress management includes relaxation through meditation or yoga. Having a support team to cheer you on and encourage you is a big part of his program. To follow this diet program at home you need the support and encouragement of your family. The average person consumes about 40 percent of calories as fat. Dr. Ornish’s diet recommends consuming only 10 percent of your calories as fat.

People in the study using this diet lost an average of twenty-two pounds the first year. On the diet you eat foods that are very low in fat, high in complex carbohydrates, and high in fiber. You avoid foods from animals, oils, high fat dairy, sugar, alcohol and any food with more than 2 grams of fat per serving.

This is pretty much a vegetarian, low fat, high fiber diet. There are no calorie restrictions, just good healthy food. Basically if you change the type of food you eat you to better quality food you can eat more of it. On this diet you eat more often and become healthier. This healthy diet and exercise plan has been shown to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol. It reduces chest pain or angina. And best of all it actually reverses coronary artery disease. It is more effective than traditional methods. The only drawback is that it is very hard to follow.

Dr. Ornish has shown that drugs and surgery are not necessary when people adhere to the program. It may take months to see a reversal in heart disease but you will start to feel better much sooner.

There are many foods that help improve the memory power. Consuming these foods not only greatly enhances the memory power of an individual, but assists all round growth of the individual. It is recommended that people consume a healthy diet to maintain a level of intelligence. There are natural products without any artificial additives that help enrich a person’s capabilities. For instance, high vitamin and protein rich foods are suggested to people whose performance is below average in an effort to boost their academic performance. This is a commonly accepted practice across the world. Dieticians and physicians suggest the intake of proteins and vitamins with moderate quantity of carbohydrates in an effort to help people with poor intelligence levels. Similarly, there are some agents such as synthetic products that help improve the memory power. However, it is best suggested that people avoid artificial products and opt for natural ways of improving the intelligence and academic performance. They include a variety of vegetables and fruits grown in organic manure. Avoid vegetables and fruits grown with fertilizers and artificial manures since they are laced with chemicals. At the most possible extent use naturally grown fruits and vegetables.

Some of the foods meant for super brains include chocolate, yogurt, spinach, egg plants, red cabbage, broccoli, tomatoes, avocados, egg, green tea, pumpkin seeds, blackberries, strawberries, walnuts, almonds and cashews.

These foods meant for super brains contain a lot of minerals and vitamins that will assist the all round development of an individual. The lack or deficiency in any of these minerals or vitamins could result in poor health condition of the individuals. For instance, the deficiency of Vitamin A could result in night blindness among many people. Doctors recommend food rich in Vitamin A in an effort to improve their condition. Similarly, people lacking Vitamin B are exposed to a condition called Beri Beri. The absence of Vitamin C causes scurvy, especially among the children. The lack of Vitamin D among people results in leads to certain chronic conditions. In an effort to avoid such conditions over a prolonged period, it is recommended that people consume plenty of greens and spinach, which are rich in vitamins and minerals.

Red cabbage is found to be essential for easy flow of blood. Similarly, broccoli improves the iron content in the human body. Strawberries are said to be good at raising the level of thought process in a person. Therefore, doctors recommend a rich diet consisting of a balanced mix of vegetables and fruits, which will help the overall growth of an individual. Similarly, people showing anemic conditions are asked to inculcate a habit of consuming large amounts of naturally grown fruits devoid of any chemicals or fertilizers. It so happens that the addition of vitamins and carbohydrates in such forms have yielded the desired results among people of all age groups. These foods are considered super foods meant for the brain in an effort to enrich the intellectual thought process of an individual.

What is eating a healthy diet? A healthy diet should include eating a variety of foods from the basic food groups. The basic food groups are:

•	Protein (meat, eggs, legumes)

•	Dairy Products

•	Fruits and Vegetables

•	Grains (breads and pasta)

•	Fats and Sweets

It is more difficult than you realize to actually eat a healthy diet. You might end up eating a whole lot of your favorite foods and not enough from one of the other groups just because you don’t like that particular group of food. You might be pressed for time almost all the time and you are forced to opt for convenience over quality when you get hungry.

You need do some planning in order to really maintain a healthy eating pattern. It takes effort to eat the recommended daily allowances from each food group. You will need to look closely at what you are eating now and then make plans to implement healthier eating habits.

Keeping a food diary of everything you eat and drink for one week should be sufficient enough to tell you if you are on the right track or if you need to make some changes.

For example, add a yogurt as a snack if you find you are not meeting your daily requirement for milk servings. Add some strawberries or other berries (berry fruit is better because they contain more antioxidants) to your cereal to obtain an extra serving of fruit. An 8 ounce glass of orange juice everyday can serve as another serving. An 8 ounce glass of cranberry juice everyday can serve as another serving. I can’t stand tomato juice, but if you can stand it, a small can of tomato juice serves as one vegetable serving. If you are pressed for time, adding these quick and easy items to your daily routine can help you meet the daily requirements for each food group.

The new dietary guidelines recommend 2 cups of fruit and 2 and /2 cups of vegetables per day. You ought to be able to meet that requirement fairly easily.

Set a weekly goal for yourself and continue to maintain your food diary. Weekly goals could be as simple as to order a salad for lunch instead of your regular French fries, or to bring a favorite flavor of yogurt to work every day.

Once you begin to really think about your diet, keep the diary, make changes where necessary it begins to get easier to meet the new daily recommended requirements for a healthy diet.

A special note for those of us who have a sweet tooth is just simply limit how often you eat those “forbidden” types of food.

I live in an area where there is an excellent donut bakery shop. These donuts are fresh out of the oven by 5:30 a.m. and I want to tell you these things are absolutely delicious. The baker is one man who says he will take his recipe to the grave, will not even leave it behind for his only daughter, not that I wanted the recipe or anything. I was content filling the donuts, stacking them in the shelf, sneaking bites here and there. And the real treat was it was Saturday, the shop was closed on Sunday. Whatever was leftover this day we could all take home at closing. I took 100’s of donuts home that year.

I worked for this donut shop about one year, and had so much fun getting fat and eating all those forbidden donuts.

It was fun while it lasted, but all good things seem to have to come to an end quicker than you want them to.

From the time this donut shop opened in my area when I was around 20 years old I wanted to work there. I never really could work in this little donut shop because I always had so much better paying and nicer jobs. There came a day, however, when I transferred into the same town where this little donut shop was and it was easier for me to at least work part-time there.

It was a Saturday morning job. I did not mind getting up at 3:00 a.m. to be there by 5:00 a.m. on Saturday morning because I knew first thing I was going to make the coffee and start sampling those delicious donuts. It was a very personal treat and reward for me for about a year. I only earned about $50 on this day. The treat was seeing how those donuts were prepared “in person” and getting to sample all of them. Boy did I have a good time in that job! I still want to go back to that Saturday morning job. I just still have other things more interesting to do and Lord knows at age 50 now I don’t need the extra fat, sugar and calories.

It would be too much of a temptation to overeat again and probably really get myself in trouble. I did end up with teeth that hurt more during that year I worked and ate at the Donut shop! I told my dentist, well the reason might just be this donut shop I been working at every Saturday…….Food is one of life’s great pleasures.

In conclusion here, you can make simple enough changes to your daily diet to meet the requirements for a healthy eating pattern. That donut shop had the biggest, roundest, cinnamon rolls I ever saw………….and blueberry cake donuts just would melt in your mouth………

Anyway, I am really on a personal journey now to turn myself around and eat healthier. You can do it too!

This poses a very interesting problem before some people who know the facts and benefits of healthy eating and a well balanced diet plan, but implementing a healthy eating plan is quite a challenge for a few.

Generally it is two types of problem while implementing a healthy eating plan.

All the marketing hype led people to believe that healthy eating is all about an ideal diet which is costly and a lot of food supplements which are even more beyond the reach of common people. All they try is to religiously consume the daily recommended dose of all vitamins and minerals as prescribed by health authorities or government agencies. For them this is all they need to reap the benefits of healthy eating habit.

Fact is healthy eating is not limited by an ideal diet and a lot of supplements. Your purpose should be to avoid deficiency of any nutrients in your body. And that can be ensured by a balanced diet. You may not be rich enough to afford all the supplements in the market to fulfill all the needs of vitamins and minerals by the body. But you can certainly be conscious to bring a balance in your diet which is more important. And there are much more concept to healthy eating which when practiced will ensure you a very good and disease free health.

For some, implementing a healthy eating plan is just the challenge to adopt a restrictive healthy eating. They know all the stuffs and rules of good health but bringing discipline is a problem for them. Now this is really a big challenge.

Going by health rules, Food is not a toy to play with. Eating is a duty and eating is a responsibility. But eating is also a pleasure for most people. Taking delicious food is as desirous a thing in life as earning money. How can you curb that urge to take hazardous but mouth watering foods?

Certainly this is difficult. So what comes as solution is restrictive healthy eating which is a compromise between ideal food habits and the most damaging ones. In youth when you are full of vitality, you can say “I eat everything and nothing hurts me “. But time comes when you say “I can eat nothing, everything hurts me”. So follow such rules in your food habits so that you can take your favorite food (even if it is a health damaging one) all along. If you like sweets, then show restraint in your youth so that you can take it all through your life.

So the grand secret of a vibrant health is to learn to live within limitations. Our body has got a wonderful capacity of adaptation and toleration. But there is a limit. When you go beyond the limit, body starts striking back. And if you still ignore, the body goes into pieces. This is what is restrictive healthy eating.

All the dreams of life can be enjoyed if you have the luxury of good health by your side through healthy eating habits. Start immediately by implementing a healthy eating plan and much more simple but effective health building steps.

A common myth about arthritis is that it attacks aged persons only. This is not true. Quite a few children suffer from arthritis. However, this is not the only myth about arthritis; plenty of such notions prevail in the society. As knowledge is the only thing that removes misconception, let us learn some basic things about arthritis and help others find most suitable remediation for joint pain and aches.

Arthritis is a syndrome that involves inflammation, tenderness, swelling and pain around joints. Basically Arthritis is a set of conditions that cause damages to joints in human body. There are around 150 types of rheumatic conditions that are called arthritis. Each of the conditions has different causes, different symptoms and obviously, different remediation.

But the symptoms of all sorts of arthritis are almost similar which hinder the diagnosis process. Swelling, stiffness, tenderness and limited activities are the most common signs of arthritic conditions. Some serious types of arthritis may even cause joint deformities. Such arthritic conditions are very painful; they can turn people disabled and homebound.

Chronic arthritis is often reported to impact on patients’ psychology too. It is not difficult to understand how it feels to live a confined life with severe joint pain and joint deformities. Most arthritis patients become irate out of fatigue and mental stress.

Top of that there is a financial effect which is difficult to cope with. Chronic and severe arthritis can compel a healthy young guy quit his job. This definitely puts the patients and their family under a money crunch. Depression, weight loss, malnutrition etc. are quite common for such patients.

Initially it starts with joint stiffness. Swelling, redness and tenderness around the stiff joint are also reported. These are the general symptoms of arthritis. Sometimes the suffering increases during cold weather. Individuals with no history of accident in recent past when suffer such pains should visit a rheumatologist immediately. Arthritis often accompanied by mild fever that often confuses people whether it is arthritis or flu causing the ache. Visiting a doctor is good in such situations.

Natural Supplements for Arthritis patients:

Adequate intake of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acid is often reported useful for arthritis patients. A healthy diet is what arthritis patients need apart from formal medication. Omega 3 and Omega 6 are polyunsaturated fatty acids that can only be obtained from foods. River water fish, fruits, sunflower oil, soybean oil etc. add polyunsaturated fatty acids to your diet. Consult a dietician to know how to make your diet optimum for your health.

Alternatively, you can take natural supplement tablets or capsules. Dietary supplements are available at your online drugstore or local medicine shop.
In this article you’ll find out how diabetics can win the “defeat diabetes” game through supplements. You’ll see how Supermarket foods (both processed and fresh) are failing the nutrition test and how to avoid this trap. In addition, you’ll learn how both lifestyle and aging in older diabetics may make the situation more difficult and how you can best deal with it. Lastly, you’ll understand how something simple like controlling blood sugar and weight may just be easily controlled by replacing missing nutrients like Chromium.

If diabetes is 90% preventable, what will help?

Type 2 diabetics, aware of the New England Journal of Medicine published reports, know that diabetes is 90% preventable.

It is hard enough to be a type 2 diabetic, but when you find out that most of today’s processed food aggravates or caused your condition, it’s even harder.(The New England Journal of Medicine September 13, 2001; 345)

Let’s get to “12 Reasons You Might Need Supplements.”

Today, in the era of Holistic Medicine, proper supplemental nutrition is not in competition with traditional medical approaches for controlling diabetes.

Instead, they should be mutually suportive:

12 Reasons Why You Might Need Supplements:

1. If you are over fifty years old, you know that your body loses its ability to fully absorb nutrients, particularly chromium, iron, calcium and zinc. Fiber intake is often lower. This alone is reason enough to seek supplement support.

2. If you are honest about your eating habits, you, and over 90% of the population doesn’t eat the way the Food Pyramid Guide suggests. You can see the need to supplement your diet with high-quality whole food supplements.

3. If you drink Coke or Pepsi, be aware that “soda sucks chromium out of your system,” and chromium is an essential mineral that helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels and minimize the onset of diabetes (Beijing Medical University study, Harvard School of Public Health).

4. If you shop at a grocery store, be aware that many of the Supermarket Foods consist of refined high-fat, high-sugar (hhigh fructose corn syrup). This diet alone contributes to major nutrient deficiencies and diabetic problems.

5. Your favorite highly processed foods often see drastically reduced nutrient content. Processors use highly refined wheat to make white flour that has removed over 80% of its magnesium, 70-80% of its zinc, 87% of its chromium, 88% of its manganese and 50% of its cobalt. Good grief!

6. Food additives can deplete nutrients. Thousands of artificial flavors, colors, dough conditioners, stabilizers and preservatives are added to many foods. While some are harmless and may increase the value of food, many are toxic and can deplete the body of nutrients.

7. Because we eat so much refined, low-quality food loaded with additives, our digestion is impaired. This further impairs nutrient absorption and increases nutritional needs.

8. Stress! This single most evil problem is not unusual to many of us. Stress can deplete your energy, cause clinical depression, lead to acceleration of aging process and degenerative diseases. The symptoms of stress include fatigue, depression, panic, anxiety, loss of appetite, and insomnia. Depression can be a result of high blood sugar. There are natural supplements that aid in the natural “production of serotonin” -a naturally occurring chemical to prevent depression.

9. Do you smoke? Chew tobacco? Drink Alcoholic beverages? Eat meals of microwaved food? Take Oral Contraceptives? If your alive in 2008 you most likely are in this group. All of these lifestyle factors dramatically increases your need for nutrients that diet alone just can’t provide.

10. How about your food-store eggs, they are a lot older than you think. Nothing is fresh and grown within a mile of your home. Many foods are grown thousands of miles from your home. These fresh foods spend weeks on trucks or trains to reach you. As soon as food is harvested, the level of certain nutrients begins to diminish, sometimes in a day. This is another factor that reduces our nutrient intake and increases the need for supplements

11. Antibiotics in our food. More than 80 million pounds of antibiotics are consumed each year in the U.S. Residues of antibiotics are detected in livestock, farm-fed fish and commercial eggs. Antibiotics kill friendly bacteria in our intestines. We need these friendly bacteria to help our bodies absorb nutrients - especially B-vitamins. Such deficiencies can result in a variety of nervous and digestive conditions.

12. Soil depletion (the cry of the Mid-West the Big Goiter capital of the US. Commercial farming, the use or artificial fertilizers and synthetic pesticides and acid rains, have caused soil depletion. So we deplete the essential nutrients in the soil. The nutritional values of fruits and vegetables are greatly reduced. In fact, the vegetables you eat today taste bland due to lack of minerals in the soil. According to a recent study sponsored by United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), about 17% of land in the world has been damaged.

Re-discovering Supplements in the United States Is it a wonder that diabetic supplements and herbal remedies have been rediscovered and become so popular overnight? Diabetes is a dangerous and complicated disease that demands a lifestyle change vanquish it’s debilitating effects. This demands:

Diabetic Diet: Not just “lose weight” but eat healthy. This means adding supplements focused on blood sugar and weight loss.

Exercise. This means getting out and moving around briskly - like the famous “Rove Exercise” of Live Longer Now fame. http://www.provenresultshealth.com/books/index.htm

Weight Loss. The Supermarket system is not helping here, so you need to learn how to safely navigate the dangerous food aisles of your grocery store, avoiding those foods that cause the most diabetic damage and focus on foods that will help make you healthy.

So take control of your destiny and educate your self, be your number one heath researcher and counselor. Make those lifestyle changes, and see if supplements might not be the key to better health.
